2021 will be a summer to remember in Nanaimo
Serauxmen Stadium officially opened July 31, 1976 in a ceremony that included retired New York Yankees player Mickey Mantle and retired Boston Red Sox player Jim Piersall. Hockey players Johnny Bucyk (Boston Bruins) and Chris Oddleifson (Vancouver Canucks), football player George Reed (Saskatchewan Roughriders) and NHL referee Lloyd Gilmour.
In 2021 the stadium will see some of the best in summer baseball with the WCL adding Nanaimo’s very own team!
The schedule, although yet to be announced will see the Nanaimo WCL team play 27 regular season games as well as an exhibition schedule.
The West Coast League is one of the top college summer leagues. Last season over 90 of the WCL players were drafted by the Major League Baseball clubs.
This is something very special for Nanaimo.
